The 1st International (16th AK Misra) Boxing Championships were held at Chandigarh from 11/03/2009 to 15/03/2009. The tournament was previously known as AK Misra All India Boxing Championship for the past 15 years and was organized by the Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association. This year's International Championship which was sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports who in addition to support for the conduct have also awarded cash prizes amounting to Rs 10 lakhs to the medalists.

Seven foreign teams from Africa and Asia participated in this tournament viz .Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Malaysia and Turkmenistan. Along with them, nine of the best Indian teams  RSPB, SSCB, Punjab, Haryana, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, All India Police, Young Colts and Chandigarh also took part.

Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) won the Overall Championship Trophy while Young Colts became Runners-up. Torak Kharpran who created a major upset by defeating Olympian Jitender had an excellant run and also defeated top boxers in this weight category including Uzbekistan to win the 'Best Boxer's Award'.

8 AM to 10 AM --- Weighing and Medical of all the participating boxers

2PM --- Opening Ceremony followed by bouts
