The Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) is the apex body for boxing in India. The IABF is affiliated with Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA), the world governing body for the sport. The province of Bombay sowed the seeds of Indian amateur boxing with regular hosting of boxing games and establishment of the Bombay Presidency Amateur Boxing Federation in 1925. H. V. Pointon, president of the Bombay Presidency Amateur Boxing federation, was instrumental in setting up the IABF in 1949. The IABF officially came into existence on February 25, 1949 and the Inaugural Meeting of the Federation was held at the Governor's Pavilion of the Cricket Club of India. Oscar H. Brown, president of the Bombay Presidency Amateur Boxing Federation, was duly elected as the first President of the Indian Amateur Boxing federation.
IABF conducted the first ever National Championships at the Brabourne Stadium in Bombay in March 1950. |
