Indian Boxing Federation President Abhay Singh Chautala congratulated Marykom & Vijender for having been conferred with the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for this year.
Shri Abhay Singh Chautala said that History has been created by the Boxing Federation in that it is the first time in India that any single discipline has received two Khel Ratnas in the same year. Marykom with her stupendous four World Championship Titles and Vijender with his awe inspiring Olympic Bronze Medal performance (India's first Olympic Medal since Boxing was introduced at the St Louis Olympic Games in 1904) have done the sport proud by their achievements. Shri Abhay Singh Chautala also thanked the Government of India and the Sports Minister Dr MS Gill for having taken the bold step of giving recognition to the deserving sportspersons and acknowledging their contribution to sports by conferring them with the Khel Ratna Award.
